What’s New in April at Nimbus

Summer is in the air! And our students are working hard to wrap up their final projects. Stay strong — the sunshine will be waiting for you when you click the submit button on those final deliverables.

In the meantime, here’s what’s been going on this month at Nimbus, starting with an upcoming event that you won’t want to miss:

Industry Panel with Harman International

Audio electronics company Harman International has organized an educational industry panel to give students a broader understanding of some of the careers available in the audio industry.

The virtual panel is being held on April 22nd at 4:30pm. Check your inbox for the link! Panelists include:

Phil Scobee, Director of Product Management at Install Markets

Topic: Concerts, Installations, Cinema

Phil Scobee has focused his 35-year-long career on improving the audio experience. With a background in Live Sound, Phil mixed Front of House for the band Alabama and lives by the motto that “Audio is the driving force that connects everyone around the world.”

Damien Curry, Global Product Manager for AKG Headphones and JBL Studio Monitors

Topic: Recording, Podcasting, Music Creation

Damien works in the Pro Audio industry and still actively writes, composes and mixes music for over a dozen different network television shows. He has been working in the Pro Audio/Music industry for almost 20 years and his success has been driven by his passion for all things audio.

Vanessa Mering, Senior Manager, Global Brand Communications

Topic: Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales

Vanessa is a brand, marketing and communications strategist with 15 years of experience at leading tech companies. She is passionate about seeing other women succeed in the tech industry and has played a key role in launching a variety of industry-shaping innovations for world-class audio brands, including JBL, AKG and Soundcraft.

Virtual Open House

Our next Open House is coming up on April 29th. If you’ve always dreamed of having a career in music, or know someone else who has, spread the word! This is an opportunity for prospective students (or anyone who is curious about pursuing a career in music) to learn about our programs and take a virtual tour of our campuses. Our Director of Admissions Ryan Jarman will be talking through the application process, potential bursaries and answering questions. We’ll be waiving the application fee for anyone who attends, so don’t miss it!

Catch our live showcase on YouTube

Our live showcase at The Historic Home of Little Mountain Sound is now available to stream on YouTube. Little Mountain Sound Studios has become a historic part of Vancouver music history since it was founded in the early 1970s. Notable artists who have recorded at MLA include Bryan Adams, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Metallica. The Historic Home of Little Mountain Sound is also the home of Nimbus Satellite Campus and remains a creative space for artists today.

The showcase includes performances by Three Scotch In, Ivan Hartle and Zoey Leven.

Nimbus alumni coming in hot with these summer singles

Just two months after releasing ‘TRIP,’ Boslen returns with his new single, ‘DENY,’ feat. Tyla Yaweh (we highly recommend listening to both).

The smooth blend of jazz, funk and rock that is 29 East’s new single ‘Love Syndrome’ belongs on any summer playlist.

Looking to blow off some steam between studio sessions? We hear you, and so does Rude City Riot. The power-ska-punk outfit opens their sophomore album with ‘Molotov Dreams,’ a catchy anthem that will help diffuse all your end-of-term stressors.
